As a person of Haitian heritage, Juneteenth came as a revelation to me, much like Black History Month. Even though I am a few days late but celebrating Juneteenth is important because it serves as a powerful acknowledgment of the rich history of Black American people that is inseparable from American history, yet often overlooked. This day marks a historic milestone in the abolition of slavery, making it the oldest known holiday dedicated to commemorating emancipation.
